01 Mar Stop bullying!
Janelle is 12 years old and lives in Dubai. She attends school in Dubai and takes one hour of Dutch lessons every week at D-Teach. Janelle follows the final attainment levels of the 6th year of Flemish education. During the lessons the focus is on reading, writing and speaking skills. In this way Janelle stays connected to the contents of Flemish education.
The Flemish week against bullying started on Friday, February 5, 2021. The Week Against Bullying is stimulated by the Ministry of Education, Culture and Science and implemented by the School & Safety Foundation. During the online lesson with teacher Steffi, attention was also paid to this.
“As a teacher you play an important role: you are the first to start and must set a good example. Making this subject discussible is also very important to me.” (Teacher Steffi)
As an introduction to the topic of bullying, they watched the video during the lesson: “Everyone in position? Dot it, dot it, come on and dot it!”. Using a viewing guide, they arrived at the 4 agreements against bullying:
- I don’t think bullying is okay and will never participate in it!
- I talk about it when bullying makes me afraid or sad.
- I will not exclude anyone, to me everyone belongs!
- I will always try to stand up for someone who is being bullied.
It was very nice to see how Janelle, after watching the movie, already drew 4 dots on her fist and showed this spontaneously, said teacher Steffi.
Both offline and online, bullying is very present nowadays, especially on social media like TikTok, Instagram, … During this lesson attention was paid to cyberbullying. Based on a conversation, some points of attention were discussed and there was a reflection on this topic.
At d-teach we also make a fist together against bullying!
