E-learning for young children learning Dutch
Meet Lila and Koko
Lila and Koko guide young children through a growing series of interactive Dutch e-learning modules.
The modules are designed mainly for children aged 4 to 7 with little or no prior knowledge of Dutch. Using visuals, audio and interactive exercises, they learn and practise Dutch through familiar situations from everyday life. Children can work independently or with support, at school or at home.
A project by d-teach online school ivzw, with support from the Flemish Government under the funding scheme Projecten Vlaanderen-Brussel.
Practising Dutch in familiar situations
The modules are rooted in situations that are familiar to young children. Step by step, children practise useful words and simple Dutch sentences they can use in everyday life.

The modules are not yet publicly available. After the pilot phase, evaluation and revisions, five finalised modules will be made available free of charge.

Investing together in a strong language foundation
In primary education in Flanders, there is renewed emphasis on building strong Dutch language skills. The revised minimum attainment targets highlight, among other things, vocabulary and listening skills. Through this project, we want to give young children who are learning Dutch additional opportunities to practise the language in a playful, accessible and meaningful way.
Pilot phase with schools in Brussels
The modules are being developed in stages. The pilot phase is currently under way, and we are working with Dutch-language primary schools in Brussels. Participating schools are using five modules with their pupils and helping us evaluate and further improve them.

Participation is free of charge. Participating schools try out the modules with their pupils and take part in a short evaluation.Free access
Once the first five modules have completed the pilot, evaluation and revision stages, they will be made available free of charge. Meanwhile, the remaining modules will continue to be developed and will be added after their own testing period.
Step by step, the project will grow into an accessible core set of ten Dutch e-learning modules.
Interactive language modules for adults
Alongside the children's modules, d-teach is also developing interactive language modules for adults (A1 level). Adults can work through the modules independently and at their own pace.
